Internships

The Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) and Global Learning Institute internships provide youth with hands-on experience facilitating workshops, supporting youth-led research, and engaging in global learning initiatives. Interns work alongside educators and peers to guide discussions, co-lead activities, and help participants investigate issues impacting their communities. Through this role, interns build skills in leadership, facilitation, research, and cross-cultural communication while contributing to programs that advance equity, youth voice, and global citizenship.

EEDA Global Learning Institute: China

The EEDA Summer Global Learning Institute: China brings together middle and high school students from the Greater Hartford area and China to build global citizenship, cross-cultural understanding, and collaborative project-based learning skills. The program for the youth participants includes:

  • 2 weeks of preparation in Connecticut focused on Chinese language, culture and history as well as travel preparation.

  • 2 one-week sessions in China focused on cultural sharing between American and Chinese participants.

  • 1 final week in Connecticut, in which participants present their learning and experiences.

Interns help shape curriculum, deliver lessons, support cultural exchange, and strengthen relationships between youth from both nations.

Summer Youth Participatory Action Research Institute

EmpowerED Alternatives and COMPASS Youth Collaborative are partnering to run a four-week Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) Summer Program serving high school students (15–18 years old) in Hartford. The program engages youth (many of whom are at higher risk of exposure to community violence, gang involvement, or systemic instability) in rigorous research, critical dialogue, and action planning that empowers them to investigate issues impacting their lives and propose solutions for change.

We are seeking college interns from Yale University to be a part of creating a safe, relationship-driven learning environment and supporting young people in developing research skills, data collection strategies, and action-oriented solutions for their community.
